Rasulullah dah ajar adab -adab nak jaga kebersihan ni - even bangun dari tidur , basuh tangan dulu sebelum jamah benda lain . itulah indahnya islam . malangnya kita lebih suka ambik yang lain....
Do you wash your hand?
Do you wash your hand properly every time you come out of the toilet? In a recent survey it was found that 70% of the people do not wash their hands properly after having been to the toilet and only 5% wash their hands properly. 26% of people’s hands in Britain had faecal bacteria. On average aperson spends 6 seconds washing their hands after using the toilet but it should be 15-20 seconds ideally. Now all those handshakes may not make you feel that confortable anymore!
Do you wash your hand before you eat your food? 61% of the people do not wash their hands before eating food. Your hand could have your own and/or other peoples’ faecal bacteria. If you eat without first washing your hands properly, the chances are you may have ingested more than you can chew! I know that sounds disgusting but the truth is the possibilities of you contracting a bug because of not washing your hands properly is very high. Health experts warn failure to wash our hands properly can lead to diarrhoea, vomiting, food poisoning, flu and the spread of MRSA.
Did you know 1 in 6 mobile phones, 14% of the bank notes and 10% of the credit cards tested in this survey were found to contain faecal matter? Why do people not wash their hands? Some people think it is not that important to wash our hands and some think we need the bacteria in our hands to make out immune system stronger. There are good bacteria and bad bacteria, however, transferred faecal bacteria from one person to another is not the good type and that is the main reason we have to wash our hands properly.
There is another disturbing statistics that shows more men are guilty of this odious habit. 15% of men don’t wash their hands at all compared to 7% of women! Is it that men are more neglectful when it comes to hygiene or are women generally more proactive in looking after their health? I do not buy the argument that men are naturally more akin to Neanderthal behavior than women.
I think it is all to do with attitude! I believe we should take drastic measures to get our nation cleaner. We should all carry a badge stating “I wash” and those who do not have a badge would be seen as a social misfit. On a more long term basis, through education and practice starting from childhood could alter this dirty habit more permanently.
We do not want to appear an extremely dirty nation!
